Ballroom Dancing

Leader/Coordinator: Alan S

Aims and Objectives of the group: To learn the various ballroom dances and to keep fit by having fun.

Any expertise needed: None, but a good sense of rhythm will help.

Equipment needed (rough costs if any): None, but comfortable clothes and shoes that will allow a glide – so not rubber soles. A partner is not necessary as some members are willing to learn both male and female parts.

Costs for the hire of the hall will depend on the number of members in the group.

Maximum number permitted in the group: 60

Location, day and time of meetings: Manchester Place, Lubya Hall, 1st,3rd and 5th Wednesdays of the month, 1:30pm to 3:30pm.

A brief description of a typical meeting: After registration the session begins with a waltz; the teacher refreshes the steps and the music begins.

The dance usually goes on through 3 or 4 songs before moving on to the next dance, e.g. Cha Cha.

Alan, with the help of others shows new moves, and revisits previously learnt steps and skills and adds special moves and turns as and when needed. Half way through there is a break for tea or coffee and biscuits.
