Walking Group, Day (1)

Leader/Coordinator: Tim Corkett

Aims and Objectives of the group:
1. To provide access to demanding, day-long, year-round cross country walks.
2. Provide group members with opportunities to plan and lead walks.
3. To create and sustain a friendly group atmosphere to enhance the walking experience.

Any expertise needed: A level of experience and fitness to support the type of walking undertaken and, ideally, basic map-reading skills.

Equipment needed (rough costs if any): Good quality, water-proof, outdoor clothing. Walking boots essential. Rucksack (for food / drink and personal items). Cost variable but if starting from scratch think in terms of £200/250. Mobile phone recommended. OS map must be carried for the
walking being led.

Maximum number permitted in the group: 15

Location, day and time of meetings: Walks take place on the second Tuesday of each month.

Mustering point: The Glider carpark, Oldhill, Dunstable. Departure at 9.30 am sharp. Car share arrangements apply – walks usually within half hour driving time.

A brief description of a typical meeting: Walks usually commence at about 10.00 / 10.15 and cover, typically, 10/12 miles depending on time of year. Drink stops are taken as necessary and a lunch break is taken in the middle part of the day – as planned by the walk leader. Return to The Glider is usually achieved by about 4.00 / 4/30 pm.
The Group Leader coordinates the creation of a yearly walking programme, with input from all Group Members.
