Heraldry

Leader/Coordinator: Margaret Larkins

Aims and Objectives of the group: To learn about Heraldry. To be able to understand the Rules and terminology of Heraldry.

Any expertise needed: None.

Equipment needed (rough costs if any): Basically a notebook and pen/pencil. There are some reference books which are useful as one becomes more knowledgeable which can
be acquired through Charity shops and a specialised source (information available from the group). Some can be obtained very cheaply and some can be expensive, but as the group are always on the outlook for bargains we can always find something.

Maximum number permitted in the group: At the moment 10

Location, day and time of meetings: Leader’s home, 1st Monday in the month, 2:00pm (cost 50p per session).

A brief description of a typical meeting: At the group meetings the basics are taught. There is homework set to enable members to remember and put into practise what they have learnt. The early part of the course is just absorbing the necessary knowledge to be able to recognise and understand Heraldry and beginners would need separate coaching to catch up the established members and to understand what is being said.
After that visits are made to various venues to view and take note of the Heraldry displayed.
The group is very friendly and we do laugh quite a bit. Tea and biscuits are not bad either.
