Walkers 1 (Thursday)

Leader/Coordinator: Jill Calvert

Aims and Objectives of the group: To promote fitness levels in a social context and enjoyment of the local countryside.

Any expertise needed: The ability to walk distances of approximately 5 miles.

Equipment needed (rough costs if any): Stout boots or shoes (conditions can be muddy and hills are possible). Waterproof clothing. Rucksack (doesn’t need to be large).

Maximum number permitted in the group: It is maintained at 25.

Location, day and time of meetings: Meeting at the Glider Pub car park. 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. 9:30am.

A brief description of a typical meeting: Members meet, arrange car-sharing and drive to the start of the walk. Group members take turns to plan and lead the walks of approximately 5 miles.
New members with little or no experience of this are assisted by other group members. At the end of the walk we generally have lunch in a pub. Every 6 months we have a planning meeting for the next 6 months. Once a year we go away for 4 days walking in England or Wales.
