Family History

Leader/Coordinator: June Byrne

Aims and Objectives of the group: To provide support in a friendly and enthusiastic environment in the researching and learning of how to search for one’s ancestors, and therefore
produce a “Family Tree”. Courses are periodically arranged on “Success in your Family History” part one and two. Have just completed one in May 2010 Offer of personal help is given to the new member, from the leader.

Any expertise needed: It is useful for the leader of the group to have a reasonable knowledge of where and how to research one’s ancestors

Equipment needed (rough costs if any): None.

Maximum number permitted in the group: As our group has grown so much to now having a membership of over 50. We are in touch with the hall organiser to see how many we are allowed for fire regulations to have in the hall.

Location, day and time of meetings: United Reform Church, Edward Street, Dunstable, 2nd Monday in the month (no meeting in August), 2:00pm

A brief description of a typical meeting: There is usually a talk on a Family History related topic by various speakers.
Coffee/tea biscuits are served.
Three times per year we have “Back to Basics” afternoon, members are asked to submit a problem or question about Family History to the leader before these meetings, when it is hoped an answer can be given.
There is a coach trip organised usually in July to “The National Archives at Kew”.
