Scottish Country Dancing

Leader/Coordinator: Maggie G

Aims and Objectives of the group: To learn steps and formations of traditional Scottish Country dances in order to execute the dances competently in class.

Any expertise needed: A good sense of rhythm and fitness.

Equipment needed (rough costs if any): None.

Maximum number permitted in the group: 24

Location, day and time of meetings: United Reformed Church, Edward Street, Monday 10:00am to 12:00noon.

A brief description of a typical meeting:
We start with a ‘warm up’ slow dance, so no strained muscles later.
We have a repertoire of about 50 traditional dances, some 3 couple, some 4 and some 5 couple dances and we usually manage to dance about 8 of these in our session. A new dance is introduced from time to time to keep the interest going, this sometimes involves teaching a new formation.
